Back on July 15th, chef Josh Eden (pictured below) launched his new Do-Good Dining at Shorty’s .32 program: “This series will support a different charity on a weekly or monthly basis with a celebrity friend joining the cause. Eden will donate $1,000 in addition to a portion of the business done that evening.”

First up is the North Shore Animal League and celebrity, Beth Ostrosky Stern.  According to their site, “North Shore Animal League America, headquartered in Port Washington, NY, is the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world. Since 1944, The Animal League’s mission has been saving the lives of pets through adoption, rescue, spay/neuter and advocacy initiatives. Every year, the Animal League reaches across the country to rescue, nurture and adopt approximately 20,000 pets into happy and loving homes. To date, the Animal League has placed close to 1 million puppies, kittens, cats and dogs into carefully screened homes. One of the first animal rescue agencies on the ground in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Animal League rescued more than 1,400 pets from the region.”

Not only does a portion of the bill go to charity, guests receive a complimentary cocktail and are eligible to enter a $10 raffle for dinner for two at Shorty’s .32.  Since this month’s even has already passed, I will be sure to keep you posted on the next go-round and their charity of choice.

How fun and great is this?  Help name adorable puppies AND support animal charities at the same time – for FREE!  Check out Puppy Namer! Jake at Zoomdoggle always finds fun, innovative, creative ways to make people happy and smile.  With the success of his own puppy naming adventure he decided to branch out and do a good thing for a lot of animals in need.  Each week a puppy is put up for naming and a sponsor chooses a pet related charity – each name suggestion gets $.50 and each vote gets an additional $.25.

Pup number one is already posted – this week’s sponsor is Tap’dNY, a for-profit company that bottles water New York City’s public system.  Tap’dNY will donate to the ASPCA which, according to their website, “was the first humane organization in the Western Hemisphere. Our mission, as stated by our founder, Henry Bergh, in 1866, is ‘to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States.’”
